Malwarebytes becomes hyjackware?

Recommended Posts

The problems I encountered with update 3.3.1.2183:

1. When first updated to 3.3.1.2183 the initial boot of the computer caused it to hang and not complete loading, did a repair and restore. Reinstalled Malwarebytes, then the computer would load but hung while in use, forced closure, next boot it didn't hang. No other changes were made to the computer during this installation.

2. Hyjackware???? Malwarebyte rebooted the computer to quarantine PUPs while in use causing loss of work without allowing user action!

3. I understand your feud with Advanced System Care but I use some of the features of their products and up to this update have been able to work within Malwarebytes so that I could continue to do so. The feature in the program to restore the item and exclusion settings don't work. What does work is turning off "Automatic Quarantine" in Settings under Protection, this allows the user to select whether or not to use the program and may also solve the unexpected reboot of the system referenced in 2 above.

Take away, I've been a longtime user of Malwarebytes and Advanced System Care, they both have good, bad or not the best implementation of features. It seems that the problem with lost work because of this update and its unexpected reboot could be solved by designing updates to use the selected settings from the previous version.

Thank you,

Hi @WilBen, sorry to hear about your concerns. Let's see if i can address them.

For issue #1, can you please grab the logs mentioned in the following thread. This could help us figure out what happened: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/190532-having-problems-using-malwarebytes-please-follow-these-steps/

For issue #2, it sounds like you have auto reboot turned on. This is a setting for a scheduled scan in the advanced options. If Quarantine All Threats Automatically and Restart computer when required for threat removal are checked, it will reboot without prompting. I'd advise disabling this if it's impacting your work.

For issue #3, if you turn off automatic quarantine, and on the results page, exclude all the results, you should no longer get prompted about ASO.

Hopefully this helps, if you have any other questions or concerns, let me know
