Adware.Elex.ShrtCln keeps coming on Chrome

Hello guys, 

So just yesterday Malwarebytes been detecting one of the chrome file (Web Data) as adware.elex.shrtcln. I quarantined them, and restart the chrome. And it appears again, the malware.

I did some of the remedies suggested in the forum.

1. Reset sync the chrome, and scan again. But even after I quarantined them, it still coming.

2. I scanned the webdata file using the other antivirus, none return positive detection.

3. Then I reset sync the chrome, remove the affected webdata file from the folder to another folder. And perform the scan, it detects nothing. Nothing.

4. After I sync again and perform a scan, it finally detects and keep coming despite how many times I quarantined them. It even detected on my other PC, I reset sync and isolate the affected webdata, and boom it didn't detect.

 

So what is happening? I kept getting confused. I have re-attached the scan result of the affected file.

youre not the only one loads of people are affected but at this moment theres nothing we can do but just wait until MB staff figure out a way to stop this weridness

i tried that, twice, and it didnt work, hence why im just here waiting for a new solution :/

Okay, I finally found a solution. Go to Settings, navigate to Manage Search Engine > Remove everything under "Other Search Engines".

Then scan again the file, it works! (:

im going to reinstall chrome to see if that works at all

 

UPDATE 1: reinstalling Google Chrome and running a scan, nothing was detected (this is before i log in to Sync)

UPDATE 2: I've re-syncd my account and ran a scan, nothing was detected, so looks like reinstalling could be a possible solution

UPDATE 3: I shut down my PC and rebooted, ran a scan (with chrome closed) and nothing was detected

UPDATE 4: (With Chrome open) i ran a scan and yet again nothing was detected,

im not sure if its "the solution" but its worked for me so if you want try it yourself i cant guarantee that itll work for everyone as i only have myself to test this method on but you never know it could work

UPDATE 5 (Final Update?): So i went ahead i logged into all my social media stuff YT, twitter etc getting to be like it was before i uninstalled originally, re-scanned and yet nothing has been detected by MB premium

whether completely uninstalling and then reinstalling is the solution i don't know, and whether or not its a permanent fix or just a temporary one, until i do something that makes it come up again, i do not know im not a wiz kid is this sorta field but i this method i tried has worked for me so it could work for you guys as well

 

i hope this can be of some help to people struggling/worrying and i hope this solution works for you guys as well
