Malwarebytes Won't Update

Recommended Posts

I have the premium version of Malwarebytes 3 and it won't update whenever I go to check for updates. It's like it cuts out in the middle of the download attempt. Restarting doesn't help. Whenever I boot up my PC and Malwarebytes starts up it says that my updates are up to date before changing back to "Updates are not current". Been trying to update for five days straight with no luck.

Malwarebytes Version: 3.2.2.2018

OS: Windows 10 64-bit

It looks like you have an older version of MBAM installed which did not cleaned up correctly.

Lets do this:

Let us get a clean install of the current version.
We have another tool called MB-Clean which will automate the whole process for you.
Tool can be found at https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb_clean
1. After downloading the tool run the tool.
2. The tool will automatically clean up the older possibly damaged installation and will ask you for a restart.
3. Restart your system and then the MB-Clean tool will prompt you to re-install the latest product .
4. Click on "Yes" to reinstall MB 3.×.
5. Now you will have the latest product installed. If it does not offer the new install after the reboot you can download and install from here.

Okay, well everything was fine until this morning when the same issue sprung up again. It says updates aren't current and won't update, so I ran MB-Check. Not sure what it entails, though.

I am currently experiencing this exact issue. I have gone through all the steps and the day afterwards my MB program would not update anymore. (Unless I use mb-clean again, but this is a hassle doing it after every restart)

Currently, I think my issue is a conflict where either Emsisoft or, perhaps Webroot is preventing the update.

I am able to get Malwarebytes to update in two different ways.  (1) uninstall and (2) restart the computer (I now use Alt-F4 because of a new Win 10 bug or feature).  As soon as the desktop is displayed I right click the MB icon in the system tray and select Check for Updates at the top of the dialog box.

The next time it fails I'm going to stop both Emsi and Web to see if there is a conflict.

Additional info, immediately after purchsing MBAE that app was discontinued and I got some form of MB (there seems to be three names for the app and noone has been able to tell me which I have, it is either MBAE, MBAM, or MB3 depending on where I look.  At that time all three companies told me there was no incompatibility so I continued with MB?.  Within a few days of my license renewal for MB (and Win 10 update) these problems started.  Now, MB is telling me not to run all three apps due to POSSIBLE conflicts.  Quite aggravating but waiting to see what happens.  BTW, MBAE was stopping exploits about once ever two weks.  In one year MB has not reported any.  Not sure of the reason.
