GPU 100% at idle= malware, virus...? Please Help!

Recommended Posts

Symptoms:

In any GPU monitoring program it shows that my GPU is running at 100% load and heating up at idle. No games running and with or without Firefox open. This will happen without warning and I have not been able to connect it to a particular program, process, scheduled task or time of day. It will reset if I reboot, only to start again randomly. It can also start when I'm not on the computer and the screen (not the computer) has gone into sleep mode.

Full disclosure I have been troubleshooting this issue for a few weeks so who knows how much I have muddied these waters. :(

I'm at my wits end and would greatly appreciate some assistance with this.

I have no idea what all these attachments say but if they don't include it here is some system info:

Alienware Aurora R3 (6 years old)

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Radeon Sapphire r9 390x (this card is an upgrade that I got several months back)
