Malware protection won't turn on

MB Version 3.2.2.2029 / component pkg 1.0.2012 / update pkg 1.0.3190 - running on windows 7, 64bit.

Having an issue that repeats periodically.  I am concerned that it is initiated by a virus, or other unwelcome program downloaded to my laptop.

1 - Malwarebytes keeps dropping virus protection.  When I try to reset web protection and malware protection, they revert to off.  I cannot get it to set to on.  Dashboard reads "you are not fully protected".
