It seems that every so often one or another of the web protection items turns itself off. The only solution is to uninstall-reinstall MB, but when I do I have to start from scratch, inputting my settings and of course there are no former scans listed since it says no scans have been done yet. Fine and good. But a few days later, MB gave notice that there was a problem with rootkit detection:

"Malwarebytes was unable to load the anti-rootkit DDA Driver. This error may be due to rootkit activity. We recommend re-booting so Malwarebytes can attempt to install the driver."

Well, of course that did not work. Now Malware Protection and Scan for Rootkits are off. I just turned on the first and it goes right back off. I turned scan for rootkits on and so far it did not go off.

I have Avira Anti-Virus and have a suspicion that there is a clash between the two. But honestly, it gets tedious to keep uninstalling and reinstalling MB. There has to be a reason why this occurs so often. It happened with the previous version as well.

Please advise.

Let's try and get some logs first so the team can review them and see if they can tell what may be causing your issues....

  1. FIRST: Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
  2. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
NOTE: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
  3. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
  4. Press the "Scan" button
  5. This will product two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
NOTE: These two files will be collected by the MB-Check Tool and added to the zip file for you
  6. NEXT: Create and obtain an mb-check log
  7. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
  8. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
  9. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
  10. Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

I tried nikhils suggestion since it was the quickest. All of my Real Time Protections are on. However, the rootkit problem continues. It is never turned on initially under settings. I turn it on, but when I did a scan MB did not perform a rootkit inspection. Sure enough, I went back to settings to find scan for rootkits turned off again.  This time I did not receive any kind of problem warning. This is getting more than frustrating.

I'm wondering should I now go ahead and perform the FRST and Addition logs. This is about the third time I have done this in probably as many months. I know how good MB is at what it does, and I don't want to switch to another product.

BTW, this morning my husband booted up his PC to find that his Real Time Web Protection was turned off. He switched it to on and the word "Starting" appeared and just went on and on until he finally gave up. He still has no Web Protection.

Yes please provide all the requested logs now that you are on the latest version so the staff can perhaps try to figure out what my be going on with your system.

As for your husband's computer, may sure the installs the latest version as well which would more than likely solve his issues.
