MB 3.2.2 quit updating and MB 3.3.1

Recommended Posts

Has anyone, who had the problem, come up with a solution to stop the constant requirement of reinstall  MB (currently on MB 3.3.1.2183) to get updates?)

I'm constanly warned by MB that my updates are not current.  It doesn't matter which if the many "Check for Updates" buttons I click, it doesn't update.  It always says, Checking, Downloading, and finally Check for updates.  Total time: < 3 seconds.

This is a known issue but I'm not seeing a solution.  A case was opened but, as of yet, no response.  Help desk wasn't they did tell me just to continue reinstalling.  In another hread a very helpful individual started working with me has gone on vacation.  GREAT!  :D  I'm glad they get to go and have zero issues with that.

BTW, what is the offical name.  Some call it MB3.  The license renewal a few days ago calls it Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Premium.  The application itself calls it Malwarebyte Anti-Malware...

I ***MAY*** have found sort of a solution.

If you are having this issue could you please try it.

  1. Restart
  2. Before the system tray apps are fully populated (before the restart is complete.
  3.      Right click the MB icon and click "Check for Updates"

This suggests one of the other protections apps  (maybe even the Windows Firewall) is preventing MB from updating.

I had this same problem. I noticed when I clicked on the update button it appeared not to connect. I'd get a green blip on the status bar and then it would stop, which suggested to me your hunch about another app including Windows firewall, was on the right track. The issue resolved after I added an entry to Windows firewall Inbound Rules allowing connections to/from %ProgramFiles%\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbam.exe  After that, I clicked on the update button, and updates started downloading.

This may not be an issue with Malwarebytes itself, but with recent updates to Windows 10. I really don't know that for certain, but that's when I started seeing this happen.

Let's try and get some logs first so the team can review them and see if they can tell what may be causing your issues....

  1. FIRST: Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs Tell any program that blocks it to ignore or allow. It IS SAFE.
  2. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
NOTE: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
  3. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
  4. Press the "Scan" button
  5. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
NOTE: These two files will be collected by the MB-Check Tool and added to the zip file for you
  6. NEXT: Create and obtain an mb-check log
  7. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
  8. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
  9. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
  10. Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

FuzzyReception,

No settings were changed on my system.  If you are still on version 3.2.2 then try the "trick" in my original post.  If on 3.3.1 respond to Porthos.  Once Malwarebytes was updated from 3.2.2 to 3.3.1.2183 on November 4, all APPEARED to be well.  However, I am unable to independently confirm if the builds, other than component package, are the most current.

MB version 3.3.1.2183 (same as had the issue.)

component package version 1.0.262 (current version as of December 7, per the forums)

update package version 1.0.3466 (unsure if this has been updated since the problem occurred)
