Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and issues with Malwarebytes updates

Recommended Posts

I've been having the same issue since updating to Win 10 Fall Creators.

I have used mb-clean and reinstalled the latest version  - problem persists.

I opted in to the beta program - tells me there are updates to install - goes through the motions of downloading - then just ends and says there were no updates lol

Version: 3.2.2.2029

Component package: 1.0.212

Update Package 1.0.2951

Thanks @blgrace

There a  couple of issues I'd like to try to resolve.

1. You have an old, compromised version of Java on the computer. Java 8 Update 51 - please go to Control Panel, Programs, Add/Remove and uninstall that version. If you can do without Java that would be great. If you do need it then please make sure it's up to date at all times. https://java.com

2. ATTENTION: System Restore is disabled.   Please enable your System Restore and take a snapshot

https://www.howtogeek.com/237230/how-to-enable-system-restore-and-repair-system-problems-on-windows-10/

3. The MB-Check log says that your BFE (Base Filtering Engine) is not running. I don't see the same error in the FRST logs, so we need to confirm if it is in fact running or not.

The Base Filtering Engine (BFE) is a service that manages firewall and Internet Protocol security (IPsec) policies and implements user mode filtering

To know if BFE is running in your system, click Start, and type this command:

cmd   /k   sc   qc   bfe

Press {ENTER}

Post back the results of that command please.

Thanks

Ron

Yes, that shows it's running okay. I'll report back to our QA team that the log tool is not reading BFE correctly.

Let me see if I can get them to take a look at the logs too and see what they can find. There are a few minor issues but not seeing something specific that should be an ongoing issue with updates for you.

Can I have you run another check though. That says the path and files, etc. are okay but it doesn't tell us if it's running. Please run this from the command.

cmd   /k   SC  queryex   bfe

Thanks

Ron

Also, for 16+ hours now I haven't had the issue - but I don't want to speak too soon.

It's magical voodoo  at work

No other security software - apart from Win 10 Defender.

I'm not on a metered network

I've used Malwarebytes for years without issue, just seems to have coincided with Fall Creators Update.

Also, don't know if it's relevant, but I have trouble downloading anything from Malwarebytes site - updates, mb-check, mb-clean etc.

I have to have multiple attempts because of Time-out errors before the download is successful.

I'm having trouble with all google service - gmail, Youtube, search etc

I also have trouble with Malwarebytes when trying to download utility programs

Every other site I frequent works fine, online gaming is working fine.

I contacted my ISP and they were no help, however they did say that there are large "Uploads" on my network. I'm not uploading anything.

They were unable to tell me what the "Upload Data" was.

They told me to download WireShark and investigate - but I have no idea how to use that program or what any of the captured data means.

Yes - almost too strange - because now it's back.

I don't understand.

I removed Malwarebytes completely and then used clean up utility.

This didn't resolve the other issues I was having with Gmail, Youtube etc.

I reinstalled a fresh copy of Malwarebytes - the update problem was back . . .  then things just started working for a few days.

This morning I have the dreaded "Updates are out of date" message again.

Whenever I check my internet speed - it's fine

Here's another mb-check result attached
