Malware Protection is Off – Cannot turn it on

Recommended Posts

I'm experiencing the same issue like everybody else.  What's wrong with Malwarebytes?

Everything was working fine until today.  I rebooted my PC a few times and it still won't turn on.

I forced quit it and launched it a few minutes later, the Web Protection turns ON but after awhile, it turns OFF again :(

I also have McAfee AntiVirus Plus running on my system.  I'm using Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

Attached is the log file.  Thank you.

@oric1sg   :welcome:

Your main issue was about web protection not being on.  You report having done a new install-in place.   That all is good now.

Just for your information, since your pc also has McAfee VirusScan  ( which also includes a software firewall).

We typically suggest that adjustments be made in the antivirus  so that it treats the Malwarebytes as a trusted application.

This is a general type template for McAfee.

Open your McAfee program.
Click Real-Time Scanning: On.
Click Excluded Files.
Click Add file.
Browse to, and select, the file or .exe you want to exclude from scans.
Please "put as Trusted" (i.e., put Trust settings ) for the following MBAM exe files within your Antivirus Software **safe application  list** :

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\Mbam.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MbamPt.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\assistant.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMWsc.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbamtray.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMService.exe

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without conflicts. In some rare instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product to achieve the best possible system performance.

Step 1. Open the Malwarebytes program
Step 2. Click on "Settings"
Step 3. Click "Exclusions" tab
Step 4. Click the Add exclusion button
Step 5. Click ( the 3rd line in list) Exclude an application that connects to the internet.  then click Next button.
Step 6. Click browse button
Navigate to  C:\Program Files
Click once on  sub- folder    C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee   to highlight it.   ( if your McAfee version is different, just find where it is under Program Files)
Click on "Select Folder"

Step 7. Close Malwarebytes
Step 8. Reboot your computer <--Very Important!

You will be using the Open button once you get to the right folder for Mcafee which has the EXE  ( main one for the antivirus)

Lets see if we can hone in on where the main McAfee module is.  Using a common Windows applet.

Would you please go to the Start button and then the RUN option.
type in

msinfo32

and tap Enter-key. This starts the Microsoft System Information tool.  Allow enough time for the applet to load and finish.

Look on first screen on the menu bar.
Select File > EXPORT ...
then provide a meaningful file name and save that.   Then also attach that files in a new reply so that  we can get that for review.

Thanks.
