Cannot connect to internet after combofix for Troajn.TDSS removal

I cannot connect to internet on my Windows XP OS computer.

The last time it was working was when I tried combofix,

following the steps in post #2 of Jul 16 2009, 08:28 AM by Ron

in http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19420

to get rid of trojan.tdss and some hjgruy*.sys/.dll type virus.

(For details :

I had problem with browser search redirection. After a scan,

MBAM would detect it as tdss and try to remove after reboot.

However, some script would reintroduce it every time after reboot.

I reached up to the STEP 04 (posted Jul 16 2009, 08:28 AM post) in the above link.

Combofix completed the operation, created the log, and restarted the computer.

It executed combofix again, I guess created a report, restarted, and went for two times.

I realized something was not going right, so stopped and uninstalled it with

combofix /u . My guess is that it got rid of something that was supposed to be used

for internet connection. I have the last (3rd?) combofix log and can upload if it is useful. )

I tried

  • to repair the connection (both wi-fi and hard-wired, independently) since it is not allowing renewal of IP address or continue with acquiring network address.
  • "netsh winsock reset",
  • enable/diable, uninstall/install the Belkin wireless driver, Belkin utility refresh or ipconfig /renew does not work. I can see the 11Mbps strong signal with the wireless router but renewal/refresh is not accepted.
  • Microsoft's notes on reset TCP/IP netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
  • and reboots,

but still the no-connection problem persists. I have not tried a recovery of earlier configuration.

Please advise or point to links. Thanks.

Well we would like to see some logs and have you run some scans in order to see whats going on. Please follow the directions below and post in the HJT forum, not here.

Scan and post logs - read note at bottom in green

If you're having Malware related issues with your computer that you're unable to resolve.

  1. Please read and follow the instructions provided here: I'm infected - What do I do now?
  2. If needed please post your logs in a NEW topic here: Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs
  3. When posting logs please do not use any Quote, Code, or other tags. Please copy/paste directly into your post and do not attach files unless requested.
  • Please do not post any logs in the General forum. We do not work on any logs posted in the General forum.
  • Please do not install any software or use any removal/scanning tool except for those you're requested to run by the Helper that will assist you.
  • Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.
  • If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved.
  • Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback.
  • There are often many others that require asistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review
  • NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run HijackThis, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can.
