It's OK to disable self-protection, however if you wouldn't mind, it might help us to get a bit more info about your system setup so that we might investigate this issue further, so if you are willing to do so, please provide the information and logs per the instructions posted here (description of how to reproduce the issue, the FRST and MB-Check logs).
