something is eating my computer

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm running XP pro service pack 3. Not running any antivirus software at the moment (I know, I know, I was asking for it). So i was trying to download software to convert xvid video into a normal ntsc dv file, and lo and behold when I run the program that is supposed to be for "activation," I get hit with something really really bad. I tell XP to run the .exe, then everything locks up for a second, I hear the cpu beep, and now:

-I can't click on the taskbar (although using the START button works to access the start menu)

-some websites will not load (especially all anti-spyware and anti-virus sites)

-I keep getting fake "alerts" telling me to install "Protection System" and there's already a "protection system" icon on the taskbar

-the windows login screen has changed from the standard blue one to a black one

-basically NO antivirus or antimalware programs will install, including Malwarebytes. Tried changing the file names and some installers were able to run, but nothing has worked.

Malwarebytes (after changing name of installer, even to a .com file) gets me almost all the way through installation before the installer locks up.

Stopzilla installed OK, and the scan detected 3 instances of Vundo and 3 of MJcore before the app locked up. Ran VundoFix and it detected nothing.

Avast installed OK, and the scan on reboot detected 4 instances of Win32:junkpoly [cryp] in the system files:

fxscInt.exe

rsopprov.exe

shrpub2.exe

verclsid.exe

none of these could be repaired.

Right now I'm using my girlfriend's computer (running Vista) to try and get info to fix this b/c the web is so whacked on my XP machine.

HijackThis ran ok after changing the name of the file. here is the log:
