Automatic Reboot after Scan

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Re: Malwarebytes version: 3.2.2.2029

Component package version: 1.0.212

Update package version: 1.0.3024

Windows 7 operating system.

After an automatic scan, Malwarebytes is doing a reboot.  I get a quick message, then it shuts down all my open apps and restarts my laptop.  I use this laptop for work.  This can't happen again.

How do I stop this automatic reboot?

Thanks,

JadaYvette

If you are doing "repairs" following a scan such as quarantining threats, it is customary for the reboot to occur to complete the repair/cleaning.

When threats are detected during a scan, the user must decide how these threats should be handled.  By default, all are selected for removal.

When a threat has been quarantined, you must restart the computer to assure the threat removal process is complete.

Most likely theres' a configured setting for this. If this is a scheduled scan, look under Settings -> Scan Schedule -> open your scheduled scan -> Advanced and make sure that Automatically Reboot is not enabled. If that doesn't help, please run mb-check from the page below to gather the logs we can look at

Thanks.  But that's the problem. I don't get that message.  Malwarebytes gives a popup message from my tray stating Reboot will occur. Then all my apps (Outlook, Lync, etc.) are closed.  My laptop is then restarted.

How do I get this message? Where in Malwarebytes settings can I request a confirmation before a reboot?

Thanks.  Following your instructions, I accessed the Edit Scheduled Scan window.  The 'Restart computer when Required for threat removal' option was NOT enabled.   I selected the 'Quarantine all threats automatically' option.  I will try a scan and verify if the message to reboot now is activated.  If this doesn't work, I will download your suggestions.

Before and after screenshots attached.

Thanks

Made an account just to post that I'm having the same issue on two computers. A dialogue box just pops up and closes all of my stuff, rebooting my systems without my input. I went and removed all scheduled scans, and the PC I'm on now still scanned and rebooted. :( I don't see any options to turn off auto reboot.

Let's work one computer at a time.

Let's try and get some logs first so the team can review them and see if they can tell what may be causing your issues....

  1. FIRST: Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
  2. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
NOTE: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
  3. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
  4. Press the "Scan" button
  5. This will product two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
NOTE: These two files will be collected by the MB-Check Tool and added to the zip file for you
  6. NEXT: Create and obtain an mb-check log
  7. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
  8. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
  9. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
  10. Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

I was going to create a new thread to say exactly this. I've been a long time Malwarebytes user and never had a problem with your software but I'm at a point where I'm thinking about uninstaling. This has happened to me twice now, and everytime when I was in the middle of something important.

What I couldn't understand is why it is restarting the computer without asking for a confirmation. It just go its way and decides to restart the computer on its own after a popup appear. First time I decided to check if there was some setting where I could change the behaviour. What I found is a scheduled scan that I have removed. To my surprise the program decided to do the same without anything scheduled. Popup telling me there was elements in the quarantine and needs to restart... 2 seconds later my computer was shutting down.

Has the cause of this been detected? Is there a solution?
