Malwarebytes 3.2.2 hangs every time...

Recommended Posts

Please help.  Since installing Malwarebytes 3.2.2 last month, it has never once finished a full scan.  It always hangs part way through.  The green circle keeps spinning but even if left for several hours, the items scanned total stays the same and the program itself becomes unresponsive, even when I click to cancel the scan.

The old Malwarebytes worked perfectly for me on this computer for several years, but ever since the latest version installed itself (the one where you have to have a free 14 day trial of the full version) it's never once finished a scan.

I even uninstalled the program and installed a version of Malwarebytes from several years ago, but that kept attempting to install the latest version every time I checked for updates and then hanging the computer.

Hello @MagneticHamSandwich and :welcome:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thanks

Ron

Please visit this web page and read the ComboFix User's Guide:

  • Once you've read the article and are ready to use the program you can download it directly from the link below.
  • Important! - Please make sure you save combofix to your desktop and do not run it from your browser
  • Direct download link for: ComboFix.exe
  • Please make sure you disable your security applications before running ComboFix.
  • Once Combofix has completed it will produce and open a log file.  Please be patient as it can take some time to load.
  • Please attach that log file to your next reply.
  • If needed the file can be located here:  C:\combofix.txt
  • NOTE: If you receive the message "illegal operation has been attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion", just reboot the computer.

Hi - I have done as you asked and the log is attached.

However, I have to say so far my problem is still present.  Ever since the Malwarebytes update about 2 months ago, it has never finished a single scan.  It still always hangs during the 'Scan file system' part of the scan.  Even clicking the 'cancel scan' button fails to stop the scan - Malwarebytes will keep running (stuck at the hang point) until the computer is turned off and on again.  Prior to the update - the one that forced a 14 day trial of the full version - Malwarebytes worked perfectly 100% of the time for me.

Thanks for the log. Please run the following.

NOTE:   This will run a full disk check. This can take a long time to run, but please let it run.

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Thanks

Ron

No joy here.  It's still just the same - as soon as the scan has been going for about 2 mins or so part way through 'scan file system' it just stops.

I did uninstall 3 2 2  a couple of weeks back and installed a much older 1 09 version from filehippo.  That went to the end of it's scans fine, just like the 10,000 other times I've done a scan with more recent older versions.  But it kept trying to install the 3 2 2 version of course, and that version has never worked once for me.

Ever since the update that activated the full version for a 14 day trial, the free version has not worked for me.
