MBAM Icon Not Displayed in System Tray

Recommended Posts

Windows 7 x64

MBAM Free Version 3.2.2.2029

Component Package: 1.0.312

Update Package 1.0.3001

I updated MBAM this morning (Thurs) without any issue, rebooted, and noticed that the blue MBAM icon was not displayed in my system tray even though my anti-virus icon is displayed.

I rebooted again but the MBAM icon is not displayed-Is there a glitch with this morning's MBAM update and when will the glitch be fixed?

*Also, I checked the system tray settings and the 'show icon and notifications' option is selected and the blue MBAM shortcut icon is still on my desktop.

2. Is there a way to edit my original post so that I do not have to reply to myself or am I missing something? I notice there is an 'Edit' option beside this post but only 'Quote' beside my original post.

3. Why do some posts have 'black tags' underneath the thread but other posts do not?

Sometimes the update process does not go smoothly.... simply download the installer once more and install right over the existing version (upgrade) and it should fix this.

Yes, using the installer to re-install placed the MBAM blue icon back on my system tray.

The installer file did not automatically place itself into my Windows Explorer MBAM folder so I was going to place it there manually. However, when I go into 'Program Files x86 ->MBAM, it shows the mbam-setup-2.2.0.1024 file from Mar 8 2016 (when MBAM was installed for the first time) and that is the only file in that folder. Can this file be deleted and, if so, why didn't it automatically delete itself after the first update?

Yes, you may delete that file if you wish.  Assuming that file was downloaded by the program during the last time you did a manual version update/upgrade from within the software, it wouldn't be touched by the software being reinstalled as that location is basically just a temp folder for storing installers for the update/upgrade process.  If you don't need that old installer you may delete it as I said, and if you wish to use that location to store the latest installer you may place the copy you downloaded from the above link there if you wish in case you need it to reinstall later on.

To clarify, the file in question is the original installation file that was downloaded when I manually installed MBAM for the first time on Mar 8 2016. Since that time, I have installed manual updates 'through the software' but this is the first time using an installer to 'override' today's (Thurs) update since the icon was not displayed in the system tray after the the update.

Knowing this, can this old installation file be deleted?

Old installation files can be deleted as one can always download the latest version from the link I provided above.  I always download the latest version from the main site to ensure you always install the most current version..

Thank you for clarifying that the old installation file was safe to delete-I deleted it.

Since the file in question was an old installation file, why wasn't it automatically deleted either when the first update was installed after the software was installed in Mar 2016 'or' after the installer file that you provided was installed?

That my friend is a good question, but I am afraid I don't have the answer to that.... if it was in a Malwarebytes created folder it should have been deleted during an update/upgrade.  If you would have ran the mb-clean tool it would have definitely deleted it....
