Scanning 1 item shows 39 in results

A few days ago, I noticed whenever I scan an item, the results page shows "Items Scanned: 39" instead of 1 - which it used to. If I scan 2 items, the results say 40, 3 is 41, etc. Is this happening to anyone else? Seems like the scan results are adding 38 to every scan. Doesn't matter what type of file; tried new blank txt document, desktop shortcut, etc - all the same.

I have fully scanned my computer with Malwarebytes & Avast both in normal & safe mode - all came clean. Seems more like a bug than an infection. I even used MB Clean to clean and update Malwarebytes, but it's still adding 38 to every scan.

I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

This is usually caused by our "linking engine" which means if we find a file that may be related to other files, we also scan those other files. However if you run mb-check from https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3_check and upload the zip file it creates, we can take a look

Interesting, I'm pretty sure that's what's happening here but the logs are unfortunately not giving us everything. Would you mind going to Settings -> Applications and turning on Event Log Data. Then run the scan again and re-run mb-check.
