Malwarebytes 3 and Windows Defender (Win10)

Recommended Posts

Hello.

Why is the option to change how Malwarebytes is registered in the Windows Action Center behind a paywall?

By default when installed it will cause Windows Defender to disable itself (thus losing real time protection). At the same time, Malwarebytes free doesn't offer real time protection either.

Once you pay for premium (and thus would actually want windows defender to be disabled) you're able to change, but at this point you wouldn't want to change it from the default?

Am I missing something here?

Does not matter in the free version.

The trial or paid should not disable Defender.

No, you want them both on, Malwarebytes is not a full AV.

As mentioned, the free version of Malwarebytes should not change your Windows Action Center settings as it doesn't provide real time protection. Can you take a screenshot of your Windows Action Center, as well as your whole MB3 window so we can confirm the settings you're seeing?

This is the same issue I reported in another thread with the last few Insider builds. Malwarebytes turns Defender off.

Toggling the Action Center in MB settings to Never and back to Let, solves the issue.

We had this issue once before during Win 10 testing.

This is a different issue, as this only happens in free mode

It absolutely disabled it.
Can't take those screenshots anymore, only way I was able to get Windows Defender working was to completely uninstall Malwarebytes.
I had changed nothing else other than uninstalling MWB.

I haven't had any virus issues for years, Windows Defender and common sense works well enough but I usually kept MWB installed just in case something sneaks through, seems that isn't possible anymore though.
