Update Throttling Question

Recommended Posts

I regret to inform you that this is a short rant-free, emoji-less, question....

Yesterday, when I woke my computer, there was a notice that the update to version 3.2.2.xxx was available, so I installed it. A few hours later, I woke my wife's computer,  expecting to find the update notification there as well, as I have a single license for MWB 3.x for two computers. There was no notification on her machine, nor has there been one for over twenty-eight hours since I received it on my computer. Given that  I have a single license for both computers, ought not the update throttling mechanism have recognized that and offered the update for both machines at the same, or nearly the same, time?

Thanks, I had already downloaded the file, but was waiting to see if perhaps the notification might show up  once I had posted its lack here;. It  has not, so I shall use the downloaded file, as I continue to sulk about the missing notification.

There, the missing notification has been notified....

I just had a thought, but the thought of having a thought was so frightening that I thought I would ignore it....

That thought was that the license is in my name, and I doubt that MWB even has my wife's email address; thus, I ought to have realized that, if MWB has only  the one address, I would only receive the one notification. Some programs on both computers have both addresses, and perhaps I was just assuming that MWB was such program.

I could not figure out  how to  edit my previous message, hence this, which is that I subsequently realized that my thought really seemed to me to  make no sense: Her copy of MWB is on her computer, her computer is on-line, her copy of MWB gets the database updates, so it ought to have  received the notification of the program's update, especially if, as stated about, throttling has been disabled.

I remained puzzled, something at which I am known to excel.

Porthos said it: "...metering is turned off or down real low due to the upgrade install issue going on at this time."

If you even glanced at the Malwarebytes 3 forum you should notice all the posts about the current issue concerning Malwarebytes disappearing after being updated. Sometimes having the latest, greatest isn't all that's it's cut out to be. Relax. Your computer is protected and the program will update of its own accord. I am in no hurry to update from 3.1.2.1733.

I am relaxed, which is why, having seen much of the related traffic here, I bided my time until I got the notification on my computer, then waited over a day before starting this thread, my purpose of  so  doing was to inquire as to why I had not received it on both computers. It was my confusion, and/or misunderstanding (both quite normal, alas,) as to what, why, when, wherefore, et. seq. that then added to whatever it was, if it ever was.

One of the many corollaries to Murphy's Law is that everything takes longer than it takes. I, on the other hand, rephrased the original law to "When something happens...,"  finding that the "If something" construct is entirely too optimistic.
