Instead of updating, Malwarebytes Just deleted itself

Recommended Posts

I got a notice to download a new version this morning and have had the same results.

I've been able to install a later version, 3.0.4 I believe, but the web protection is stuck on starting for that and the scans stop after 3-5 seconds.

When I've tried to install the latest version, from the Malwarebytes website, I have the same thing happen as well. It looks as if it's going to install, then pops up a window saying it needs to reboot. Once that's done, it's removed any version that's on the computer and has left a txt file on the desktop with the mb license key in it. Once rebooted, it goes into a cycle of trying to install and then telling you it needs to reboot. All the while not installing anything.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same thing happen. When I go to install the version in the link, it just goes into a cycle of acting like it's stalling and then tells you it needs to reboot. Once rebooted, it acts like it's going to install and they tells you to reboot again.

When it tells you to reboot, it totally removes the program and leaves a txt file on the desktop that had the license key in it.

Please advise

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in and let you know that I'm basically having the same issues as of this morning.

I have full admin rights, have also done an mbam clean and same result. It also removes the program and leaves a txt file on the desktop with the license key when it asks you to reboot.

Thank you

Can you please go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ and please delete the following 2 keys:

{3B88B200-D13F-4F51-B9EC-1D98DBF9ABD4}) (Version: 1.60.2 - Malwarebytes Corporation)
{FBC350D5-10D0-4B9B-A9AC-5F2EA07770D5}) (Version: 1.60.2 - Malwarebytes Corporation)

After deleting the 2 keys can you please try running the installer again?

Thank you.

I'm sorry. For some reason when I searched the first, 3B88B200-D13F-4F51-B9EC-1D98DBF9ABD4, it searched in the Wow6432Node. I repathed it and found the other one you mentioned. I got it deleted and was able to install 3.2.2

Thank you for all of your help. It is greatly appreciated. Why did this happen to begin with?

That's great to hear. The most probable cause was you had an older Corporate version of MBAM 1.x installed which could not be uninstalled cleanly.

The MB 3.2.2 has a few additional checks and blocks in place. It would have detected the presence of an older product via the registry keys and would have blocked the install.

Thank you.
