Both My Safari and Chrome Browsers Have Been Compromised

Recommended Posts

Recently my Safari browser would stop loading pages. It doesn't happen every time, but the last time this happened a pop up came up saying that my IP addressed has been compromised and I need to call this phone #1-800-316-1942. I searched it on Google and this site gives away to get rid of it but it looks sketchy, https://www.removeallvirus.com/can-remove-1-800-294-1942-pop-virus

so anyway I use reddit, oftentimes I open up a number of pages and finish reading them throughout the week. Anyway my chrome pages started to slow down, to the point I couldn't post on reddit any more. I didn't think much of it since Chrome always has used a lot of ram and slows down my computer sometimes.

So I decided to restart everything. But when I got opened Chrome again it didn't start where I left off. It had a normal new tab, plus a tab that said Chumsearch. I got suspicious and ran a malware scan on my computer. Than open safari and searched for Chumsearch.

Malware scan didn't find anything and once I changed my preferences back and deleted the chumsearch page everything went back to normal. But here is the thing, I haven't download an app or anything in months. I have updated a few things but I don't think that should matter. The only thing I can think of is I might have went to a site that was fishy, but that was long ago, and I didn't download anything off of it. I haven't downloaded any new .exe files in a long long time. How was Chumsearch able to change my preferences?

Here is the address i got warning

Any advice should be great. I don't how to download files.
