MalwareBytes any relations with AvZap???

Recommended Posts

There is no relationship. AvZap is from Voros Inovation.

You won't find Malwarebytes in the Mac App Store (MAS). Apple rules for MAS apps do not allow for applications with the capabilities of Malwarebytes to adequately locate and remove malware.

Thanks for the report, we'll look into that ASAP.

I'm not sure whether it's actually forbidden to do that on the Mac App Store or not, but it's certainly unethical. I'll do some research.

I also suspect this is something we should probably detect as a PUP (potentially unwanted program). Looking at the screenshots, I happened to notice this one:

Notice that most of those are listed as being "Eicar-Test-Signature"... which probably means that those were all fake malware manufactured using an EICAR test file to show them as a detection.

We'll take a look and see if this thing actually detects any real-world threats or not. :)

@treed

Found this on Apple web site: https://developer.apple.com/app-store/review/guidelines/

2.3.7 Choose a unique app name, assign keywords that accurately describe your app, and don’t try to pack any of your metadata with trademarked terms, popular app names, or other irrelevant phrases just to game the system. App names must be limited to 30 characters and should not include prices, terms, or descriptions that are not the name of the app. App subtitles are a great way to provide additional context for your app; they must follow our standard metadata rules and should not include inappropriate content, reference other apps, or make unverifiable product claims. Apple may modify inappropriate keywords at any time.

So definitely something is not right. Good too know that you guys does not have any relations with that antivirus.

Btw the new version of MalwareBytes rocks.
