MB 3.2.2.2018 trial of Pro crashes Firefox and causes BSODs on my XP SP3

Recommended Posts

My responses last 24 hours to other threads with this issue have been deleted from those threads.  Why so?  Those other threads had exactly my symptoms as well.

Anyway, my title above says it all:  "MB 3.2.2.2018 trial of Pro crashes Firefox and causes BSODs on my XP SP3"

I uninstalled and reinstalled (with many reboots), but it continued to happen.

After those events yesterday, I UNinstalled MB completely using the mb-clean exe.  The crashes stopped.

I ask the MB folks monitoring this forum to make available MB Free, which was working OK on my XP machine before this upgrade.  Porthos suggested I re-download the new Trial and change its Settings in Account, but I really don't like BSODs and I would prefer not to take those risks.

FYI - other programs or services that are running on my machine include Avast 17.6.2310, CryptoPrevent, CCleaner, pCloud, old Google Desktop, IPROSetMonitor, LogMeIn, TeamViewer.  From time to time I manually update and run SpywareBlaster and Spybot Search and Destroy (both free versions).  But these have not been a problem for MB in the past.

Thanks.

No, they were not. They were split into new threads so that we could respond to individual needs, Please do not glom onto existing threads when you need help. Please be patient for support.

This seems to be an issue with Win XP and the new version and I'm sure staff and developers will be working on a solution after the holiday here in the US.

To help us resolve your issue, please post logs mentioned here

Hey Devin - that's very good, and that means MB is much more responsive to consumer concerns than:

- Avast (which isn't that bad)
- pCloud (which seems to have only one person assigned)
- Sugarsync (greedy and awful)
- Mozilla (snooty and dismissive)
- Microsoft (which hasn't responded to a consumer ever in its entire history but goes out of its way to generate complaints).

Thanks.

Same here.  tetonbob - please keep us posted.  This new MB caused BSODs on my XP machine, so I won't reinstall until you tell us this has been fixed.

Also, I posted an mb-check-results.zip at https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/209665-mb-3222018-trial-of-pro-crashes-firefox-and-causes-bsods-on-my-xp-sp3/?do=findComment&comment=1160037

Please look - might be helpful.  Thanks.

I received the update to the 3.2.2 on my winXP laptop a few days after receiving it on my win7 desktop, I always received program updates with a little delay on winXP. I'm not sure if I was supposed to get the 3.0.0 and it just skipped to the 3.2.2, but I can tell that by disabling the self-protection all the glitches are gone for me. I had the BSOD just for about 3 times when I deleted some malware after a scan with the self-protection still on. Just disable it and try for yourself.

I've always allowed Malwarebytes to update itself when a new program update was available. Could you actually refuse an update?

Nathaniel A - Is there still a place to find the installer for MB 2?  I also liked the separate MB Anti-Exploit (shield) that was then available.

polveremorta - Thanks, but I do not like BSODs, and I'll wait until the coast is clear.  Waiting for MB staff to advise a new subversion has been issued without the issues.

Do you know whether that MB 2.2.1 already includes the MB Anti-Exploit, which used to be a separate shield icon in my tray?

2.2.1 does not include MBAE. IF you had a separate tray icon for MBAE you installed MBAE as a standalone app. Even MBAM v3 doesn't spawn a separate tray icon for MBAE (although MBAE is included within MBAM).

If you install MBAM v2, you can install MBAE free standalone beta alongside it.
