DrestinBlack Posted September 2, 2017 ID:1159847 Share Posted September 2, 2017 (edited) Running on Windows XP SP3, latest updates all around. Today MWB told me to update the app, so I did and rebooted. Following reboot, trying Firefox caused it to crash immediately, Opening Opera would cause a crash as soon as you clicked on any part of it. Opening Pandora (running on Adobe Air) would produce a tray icon but then the program never ran (or crashed), simply nothing happened. Exiting MWB made all the problems go away. I've tried removing MWB fully and fresh install but still same errors. Edited September 2, 2017 by DrestinBlack

Did you use the clean tool? if not, Let us get a clean install of the current version. We have another tool called MB-Clean which will automate the whole process for you. Tool can be found at https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb_clean 1. After downloading the tool run the tool. 2. The tool will automatically clean up the older possibly damaged installation and will ask you for a restart. 3. Restart your system and then the MB-Clean tool will prompt you to re-install the latest product . 4. Click on "Yes" to reinstall MB 3.×. 5. Now you will have the latest product installed. Please let me know if you are still seeing issues after the latest product install.
dcollins Posted September 5, 2017 ID:1160612 Share Posted September 5, 2017 Can you try disabling Self Protection under Settings -> Protection and see if this resolves your issue?

Remembering seeing it mentioned in a forum post I turned off the self-protection feature. Suddenly I could open Firefox/Pandora again. However, I rebooted a day or so later and the issue returned, yes, while self-protection was still off. I exited, restarted MWB, turned self-protection on then back off again and lo and behold it started to work again. So, it's flaky and unpredictable. DrestinBlack Posted November 2, 2017 Author ID:1178607 Share Posted November 2, 2017 The problem has mutated - version 3.2.2.2029 Component package 1.0.212 I can open and run programs fine (Windows XP) for a random period of time, I can't find what the "trigger" is but just doing your every day browsing in Firefox and suddenly the browser hangs up (usually due to "Slow Shockwave/Flash") - but instead of continuing after a few seconds it remains frozen. So, I have to kill the process. At that point, i can no longer reopen Firefox - the process stub will launch, 48K of it - and then it just hangs up. Strangely, Windows Media Player will also suddenly start to behave the same way. A small 8k stub .exe process will start but the rest of WMP won't load. Only a full reboot fixes this. Then on a hunch I tried to stop the MBAMservice process and lo and behold suddenly everything started working again. So, the problem is still in the MBAM service... nikhils Posted November 3, 2017 ID:1178765 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Can you try disabling Anti Exploit in 3.3.1 and see if that solves the issue?
DrestinBlack Posted November 21, 2017 Author ID:1185216 Share Posted November 21, 2017 Yes, when I disable Anti-Exploit the problems go away (I don't have to kill the entire app). I am downloading and trying the latest 3.2.2.2018 version now...
nikhils Posted November 21, 2017 ID:1185217 Share Posted November 21, 2017 Hello @DrestinBlack If you have MB 3.3.1 already installed, I would not recommend going back to 3.2.2. You suggested you turned off Anti Exploit in MB 3.3.1 and it fixed the issue for you. Can you please try this: 1. From control panel uninstall MB 3.3.1 2. Now using the following box link please download and install standalone Anti Exploit version 1.11: https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/2ym51hv7uytqa16tjxbzyqkabegmis25 3. Once you have the standalone MBAE 1.11 installed try and see if you are having the same issues with Firefox/Opera and Pandora. 4. Please report back here. Thank you
