Hi, I would really appreciate it if I could receive help on how to remove this Trojan.TDSS that has been bugging my computer for about a week now. I had a few malware problems about a week and a half ago, the first in a very long time, that caused my computer to give me the blue screen a few times in one day, after which I searched around the internet and discovered Malware Bytes. Upon my first time using it, it quickly got rid of the infection (it was the one with the little red circle in the bottom right corner with a white x in it, with the popup where it tells you that your computer is infected and you need to install so or so antivirus program, when really the whole popup is just a part of the malware), and all seemed well.

However, a day or two later, my computer gave me the blue screen again and then multiple times in a row. Since then, I`ve been scanning constantly with Mbam, and all it came down to was this really annoying Trojan.TDSS (actually it always shows as two files) on my computer that would not go away no matter how many times Mbam found it, said it would delete it on reboot, and then "deleted it". It comes back every single time I reboot. So then, I asked my older brother what to do, since he`s pretty good with computers, and he told me that I should probably ask for help on a forum like this, and follow the instructions given to me. I agreed, but then I had to go to my cousins house for 4 days, and when they came over to pick me up, I ended up being in a hurry to leave since we had to go, so I pretty much just put my computer on "hibernate" and left.

When I came back, I logged in to my computer to find that something had gone terrible wrong. A few seconds after logging in, my wallpaper changed to a "Your Computer is Infected with Spyware" etc. wallpaper, which looked like a child had made the wallpaper in mspaint. My mouse lagged, and in a few seconds froze. Some kind of antivirus had popped up and was "scanning" which was also clearly a part of the virus also. I quickly shut down the computer, and asked my older brother to help me fix it. He ran it in safe mode, ran Spybot S&D and Malware Bytes at the same time. When they finished, he restarted the computer (this time NOT in safe mode), and I logged in. As soon as I did, luckily, my wallpaper did not change and no fake antivirus program ran, however a ton of cmd prompts just kept popping up and closing for no apparent reason, and they stopped within about 10 seconds, however I did notice that one of the file names I had seen on one of the prompts seemed similar to the file names of malware that Mbam finds the Trojan.TDSS at. Stuff that usually is gibberish and starts with "geyek-" something like that. I`m not sure what that was or if there is an explanation for it, I don`t know if it was bad or good, etc.

So then I came on this forum, and followed the instructions to install Avira (which my older brother had recommended anyways). A minute into it`s first full scan, I got the blue screen and had to restart my computer. When I restarted it, I ran Avira and Mbam, and this time, I`m not sure why, Mbam only found ONE Trojan.TDSS, while before, it always displayed two files. Avira found a colorful assortment of viruses, which I deleted/quarantined (see, my older antivirus AVGfree refuses to update for no apparent reason and just DOESNT work...). So here I am, trying to figure out how to stop this Trojan.TDSS before it gets worse, like it did when I left it for 4 days alone... Thanks for any help in advance and sorry for writing a book (just thought I`d give the whole story).

Here is the latest Mbam log, from today.

c:\windows\system32\geyekrtowsbumo.dll (Trojan.TDSS) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Although it says that it deleted succesfully, I`m prettttttty sure that if I were to scan my computer with Mbam right now, it would find it again (and maybe even two, since usually its two).

Finally, I`m not sure if it would help at all, here is my latest Avira Antivir log. Dunno if it`s relevant, but I`d also like to point out that there are hidden files that Avira found on my computer, and the file names start with "geyek-" just like the file that is in the Mbam log. I have never hidden any files before, so these hidden files are definitely not my doing.

Thanks for any help. (:

Hi,

First of all, please update MalwareBytes, because the databaseversion is outdated.

  • Start MalwareBytes and click the Update tab. There click "Check for updates"
  • In case you can't update the database via the update option, please download and install the database from here. Only do this when the update option doesn't work.
  • Once the updates are downloaded, perform a quick scan again.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log, then we'll proceed from there with new steps.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.
