Computer sleeps while scan is running?

Recommended Posts

I noticed my computer with v3.1.2 went to sleep (its set to sleep after 15 minutes) while my scheduled scan was running.  I don't think this happened with v2.  IIRC the computer would (and should it seems) stay awake while the scan is running.  Did something change?  I don't think there is a setting to check.

I'm not able to replicate this. What operating system are you on, and can you clarify what scan settings you have on your scheduled scan please?

*EDIT*

NVM, just had this happen :) Let me do some more research

*EDIT 2*

After another follow up, this is currently expected behavior but we're looking at how we want to address this in the future. Thanks for bringing it up

Is there a timetable to get this fixed?  If my computer goes to sleep while the scan is running I notice when I wake it and the scan resumes it has trouble completing.  Recent scan took nine hours to complete when it typically takes 20 minutes.  If the computer sleeps while a scan is running I end up having to cancel the scan and do it again, making sure the computer does not sleep.  Defeats the whole  purpose of having a scheduled scan.

Wondering why previous versions of MBAM did not allow the computer to sleep while it scanned but this latest and greatest does?  Seems like a huge step backwards.

I use a program to keep the computer from sleeping in these cases.

That's a workaround, not a solution.  I asked above, why would MBAM take a step backwards and now have a program that will allow the computer to sleep while it is doing its job when for years it previously didn't?

Yes.

Forgive me for even offering this workaround.

People are very testy around here.  I guess I need to say:

Thank you but that's a workaround and I would prefer a solution to the issue.  I asked above, why would MBAM take a step backwards and now have a program that will allow the computer to sleep while it is doing its job when for years it previously didn't?

Perhaps someone from Malwarebytes can respond.

Yep, that was a month ago.  Its a flaw in what is supposed to be an improved program and it was agreed that it needs to be addressed.  Since that response they released a new version.  Did it resolve this issue?  Maybe someone from Malwarebytes can respond.

As I mentioned, we don't see this as a flaw, it's intended behavior currently. We have this feature request filed, but there is no ETA on if/when we'll implement the change

Its intended behavior that my scan has currently taken more than 18 hours to run?  When MS does it better (computer will not sleep while it runs a scan) I think you need to reconsider.
