problem malwarebytes says no service

Recommended Posts

@wolfieb:welcome:

Let's get some diagnostic logs.

  1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
NOTE: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
  2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
  3. Press the "Scan" button
  4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
    NOTE:
These two files will be collected by the MB-Check Tool and added to the zip file for you
  1. Create and obtain an mb-check log
  1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
  2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
  3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
  4. Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbam.exe    REG_SZ        WINXPSP2 RUNASADMIN

Go to the folder C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\
Find the file mbam.exe and right click on it and choose Properties
In the window that pops up click on Compatibility Tab
Remove any changes there that don't match my picture below and click OK

Then

1. Download the latest MB 3 installer from : https://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mb3
2. Run the installer on top of your existing product. (Note you don't have to uninstall anything, just run the installer again)

Check "winmgmt" service or repair WMI.

Let's try the easiest solution first:

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type services.msc and click Ok
  3. Scroll down and find Windows Management Instrumentation
  4. Right click Windows Management Instrumentation and choose Start
  5. If you get an error here, please take a screenshot and post the error here. If you don't get an error, continue on the with the next steps
  6. Right click it again, and choose properties
  7. In the middle of the screen, change Startup Type: to Automatic and click Ok
  8. Reboot
  9. See if Malwarebytes starts properly

Hello @wolfieb

The tool is supported on:

Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Vista

However, there could be many things causing it to fail. We'll go ahead and take a look and see if we can manually fix it. Without WMI working correctly, many programs might run but won't work properly.

Please download the following zip file fixwmi.zip and save it to your computer. Then open and copy the file from within the zip file to your desktop. Do not run it from within the zip file.
Once you have copied the batch file to your desktop, then right click over it and select "Run as administrator"

That should run for a while and then restart the computer for you. Once it has restarted, please run a new FRST scan and make sure you place a checkmark on the Additions.txt check box and attach back both new logs.

fixwmi.zip

Thanks

Ron
