Is this salvageable without reformat

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this computer.

AVG free caught some viruses, and deleted them, but problems still occurred.

I ran MalwareBytes, and the log was;

When I tried to restart the computer, I received an error message (logonui.exe - Application error) and Windows would not start properly. I restarted in safe mode, re-ran MalwareBytes, and eventually got the computer to restart in 'normal' mode. However, I received an error message 'spoolsv.exe - Application error', and the printer server was stopped. I restarted this, and the printers were usable, but upon restart the same problem occurred.

I reran MalwareBytes, and received an apparently clean report,

However, when I restart the computer the I still get the problems with 'spoolsv.exe' , so I do not want to reconnect the computer to the network or internet.

Any help and suggestons would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have bad news for you :)

I see you're dealing with Virut on top of the other nasty malware you are dealing with. In that case, it's unfortunately a lost case - Game over situation and a format and reinstall is the fastest and especially the safest solution.

You may want to read this why: Virut and other File infectors - Throwing in the Towel?

So, I suggest you to start backup all of your valuable data/documents/pictures/movies/songs/etc.. Do NOT backup any applications/installers and Do NOT backup any .exe/.scr/.htm/.html/.xml/.zip/.rar files...

This because these files may be infected as well. If you back them up and replace them afterwards, it will infect your computer again.

Read here for instructions how to format and reinstall Windows: http://web.mit.edu/ist/products/winxp/adva...all-format.html

If you have any questions let me know.

I was worried about that, after reading other posts.

I will follow your advice, but have a couple of questions.

How worried should I be about other computers on the Network (four computers on a Windows network) being infected by this computer?

I discovered the alerts on Tuesday morning, after a long weekend. The initial infection seemed to occur on Saturday, with the infected computer not being removed from the Network or Internet until Tuesday. Up until this point, AVG anti-virus has not detected anything on the other computers, but should I run MalwareBytes and HiJack on those computers also?

Thanks for your advice.
