Can I scan external harddrive simultaneously with KTS and Malwarebytes?

Recommended Posts

I have "autoplay" turned off. I would like to scan my external harddrives before connecting to them.

I usually scan with Kaspersky Total Security first, then scan it again with Malwarebytes.

Do I have to wait till KTS scan is finished or can I run both (KTS & Malwarebytes) at the same time without having them intervene with eachother?

You should wait till Kaspersky is done scanning before launching a scan with Malwarebytes. You should never run two scan at the same time, as if both of time ever scan the same file at the same moment, it could lead to issue (program crashing, file getting corrupt, etc.)

I personally do not bother scanning externals with MB. With autoplay turned off that keeps the autorun infections at bay.

Not knowing what you store on your external in most cases MB does not scan or detect those file types anyway.

Malwarebytes does not target script files. That means MB will not target; JS, HTML, VBS, .CLASS, SWF, BAT, CMD, PDF, PHP, etc.

It also does not target documents such as; PDF, DOC, DOCx, XLS, XLSx, PPT, PPS, ODF, etc.

It also does not target media files;  MP3, WMV, JPG, GIF, etc.

What other effective way can I scan my externals? Is KTS sufficient or can I take other measures that are more thorough? (Nothing too complex please as I am still a beginner)

How will I be able to scan my external then? Is KTS sufficient or can I take other measures that are more thorough? (Can't do anything too complex though)

What is on your external. Did you read what MB does not scan? Are those types of files on your drive?

If it makes you feel better to run these scans, by all means, go ahead. Just do the MB scan alone. By default, it will use up most of your CPU to complete the manual scans as fast as possible.  You will find it difficult to run ANYTHING else at the same time.

The whole purpose of having an AV and MB premium is if you try to run a bad file/program one of them will catch it. You are running Premium MB yes?
