Malwarebytes scheduled a scan on it's own.

Recommended Posts

As the title says, I start my PC, open Malwarebytes and suddenly noticed it had already conducted a scan for about 13 Minutes. Looking into it further, it seemed like Malwarebytes had a scan scheduled for today, the 28th.

How and why did that happen? I never scheduled any scans myself, didn't even know that was a function until this happened.

We need some more info to see what is going on.

  • Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Leave the log files in the current location, they will be automatically collected by mb-check once you complete the next set of instructions
  • Create and obtain an mb-check log
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, press "Enter" to accept the EULA then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • This file will include the FRST logs generated from the previous set of instructions
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

Oh wow, is it potentially that serious? I'd rather not download untrusted Software if it's not entirely necesserary, seems a bit... Extreme to me. But I guess if it doesn't have a known cause, there might be something wrong here.

I'll consider it, I guess. I am a bit paranoid about this stuff, so sorry if I'm being complicated, it's nice of you to try and help.

At least get this one. It is made by Malwarebytes.

Okay. I still don't trust this whole thing entirely and I hate uploading anything at all, so I'm placing a pretty substantial amount of trust in you here.

You may delete your attachment now. You are on the free version and the last version added a free scheduled scan monthly built into the program.

Couldn't have told me that without making my stupid, paranoid brain go into overdrive? xD Anyway, thanks man, you've been a real help.

The tools we use are not harmful and like the old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" gives us info that sometimes saves a dozen questions and lets us help you faster and more accurately.

If you are worried about the security of your computer I suggest getting the paid version of Malwarebytes to run alongside Avira for increased protection.
