A week ago I got some spyware calle Home Antivirus 2010 on my computer. After this, my computer started acting oddly even though I think that I have removed the spyware from my system.

Firstly, none of my anti-malware programs work. I've tried Defender, Malwarebytes, Spybot, and even an online scan through IE and every time that I start the scan, the program just closes automatically. After this, when I try to reopen the program, it always comes up with the same error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Even Internet Explorer now can't open and has the same error message because I ran that online scan through it.

So, I decided to run a HijackThis scan to find out what the matter was. The same thing happened. The scan stopped unexpectedly and now I can't even open HijackThis because of the same error message.

I also tried to run SpyBot through Safe Mode and it still had that same error message.

The weird thing is that my AVG scan still works but it doesn't find anything even though there is obviously something there on my computer.

In the end, I had to remove Home Antivirus 2010 manually because none of the scans could be completed before they turned off.

I've really run out of ideas as to how to fix this. Can anyone give me some advice here as to what might be causing the problem? I really don't want to to a full system format unless I really have to.

One more thing, I've noticed that now Windows Live Messenger and HijackThis are now missing from the Add/Remove Programs list in Control Panel. Maybe that will help pinpoint where the virus is or what it is so I can rid of the annoying thing.

Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks.

I have this exact problem! I've been trying to solve it ever since early yesterday afternoon. I've tried everything you have and then some, including Microsoft's Malware Removal Tool and Ad-aware. All of them fall to this virus. The programs completely cut out and the executable file suddenly has its permissions changed so I can no longer access them. You can change the permissions back, but it simply does it all over again.

If anyone has any sort of answer to this that would be incredibly appreciated!
