I have been googling the heck out of this issue and stumbled upon this page.  I believe i have the same issue.  I have 2 PCs both are Win 10 with Outlook 2016 (part of Office 365).  On the main PC I have done a bunch of troubleshooting with in regards to the indexing (google search results) and even created a new main PST file (2 e-mail accounts, 3 PST files).  Same thing.  On the second PC (which contains 1 PST file with POP account, and one exchange e-mail with with OST) I noticed the search error doesn't happen on the default OST  exchange account but when I change the drop down to search all folders then it comes up.  I have uninstalled MB on both machines.  No fix.  Am currently doing online repair installs on both and will report back.  I am a paid user of MB.

Try a clean re-install to make sure your on the latest version of Malwarebytes and to see if it corrects your issue, otherwise please post the requested logs...

Let's try this first.... (Malwarebytes clean removal tool will backup your license information and then re-enter the license to the new install)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot. Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES (it will download the latest version) or you can download the latest version manually (currently v3.1.2.1733 ) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: mb-check-results.zip, FRST.txt, Addition.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.1.2 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

I ran the uninstaller but after the initial screen I never saw another screen and no indication that it did anything, or finished.  I rebooted.  Same problem.  I made 3 new PST files and copied my old PST contents to those new PSTs and then closed the old PSTs.  Tested.  Same issue.  I guess I can't say definitively that this issue is being caused by MB other than the fact that I had MB installed on both PCs.  Right now I don't have MB installed and still have the same issue.

I have had MB installed on both machines for a long time with many versions.  So if it is a MB-caused issue then it would be something specific to a recent updated version of MB and not simply MB in itself - if that makes sense...

Do you still want me to do #2 and #3 even if I do not even have MB presently installed?

@Ebbhead can you provide the requested logs...

Let's try and get some logs first so the team can review them and see if they can tell what may be causing your issues....

  1. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: mb-check-results.zip, FRST.txt, Addition.txt)

Here are the requested logs.  Note that I currently do not have MB installed.  Since my last post, I rebuilt the Index and the Outlook search appears to be working again.  Both for Current Mailbox and also for when I select All Mailboxes.  My guess is that the combination of creating new PST files and then rebuilding the Index is what led to my fix.  So, I guess I could now install MB and see if it breaks it or if it continues to function... Thoughts?

Neoman, thank you for the links.  The second one seems to confirm that the PST file is getting corrupted via an update.  That would explain my fix of making new PST files, transferring over the data from old PST to new.  Then rebuilding the index.

  • 2 weeks later...

I would like to post some new info.  I was at a customer's site today and he had the Outlook search issue (latest version of Office 365).  He also had the free version of MB installed.  His free version of MB had an install date of 030117 and his Outlook didn't stop working until about 061217.  He said he remembered installing an Outlook update.  I am pretty sure this is an Outlook update issue and not a MB issue.  My opinion.  Thanks.
