The most notable difference is that yes, Endpoint Security is an on-prem solution while Endpoint Protection is cloud based. Those are only the surface differences. Endpoint Protection has the new protection agent, based on Malwarebytes 3 technology, now on the business side. Additionally, it has all those technologies; Anti-Malware, Anti-Exploit and Anti-Ransomware all rolled into one instead of being separate like the older on-prem.

With Endpoint Security you cannot central manage, deploy and report everything regarding to the Anti-Ransomware module. So basically not an option for large organizations.

In addition, the anti-ransomware module within Endpoint Security is still the 0.9 version.

Also, Endpoint Security does not have an Anomaly Detection Engine, (if I have to believe the information and communication on the website).
