This used to be great software, but I redownloaded it yesterday and had no probs, today, however, I was playing a game that I have played for 2 years without incident and all of a sudden, malewarebytes decides to update, even though i had automatic updates turned OFF, and crashed my game, so iwent in to task manager to end the process, since the MBAM UI wouldnt open and it wouldnt end, infact, it finally opened the UI, and froze my entire system up for over 25 minutes until finally, i had to unplug the PC and restart it that way. I looked up some reviews about MBAM and discovered that in recent years, they have become negligent and money hungry. In my opinion, they should just go to being 100% free, and rely upon donations from those who are satisfied instead of expecting peeps to pay real cash for this JUNK.

Hello @tobster699

Sorry that you're having an issue with the program. If you like I'd be happy to assist you in checking what's going on and correcting.

Thank you

Ron

I have used malewarebytes for the past 15 years, always satisfied, until recently. I had it on my last PC and there was a prob ending the task because it freezes up so often, now it is still having that prob and this time, cost me $40 that i spent on an ingame item that was destroyed because i couldnt shut MBAM down and restart my game, after it decided to update even though, in the options, i have MBAM set up to update when i do it manually. Why does this program refuse to end when you use task manager to end task, and why does it use 99.1% of my cpu and stay frozen that way until i had to unplug my PC? it has gradually gotten worse over the last year and a half.

Not sure what you were using for 15 years. Malwarebytes was formally established in January 2008 which was about 9 years ago. I'm sorry, not to dispute you but the only way the game would be destroyed would be from file corruption from a forced power shutdown, but even that would be very rare. Almost all games I'm aware of nowadays can be downloaded and reinstalled at will by the end user as well if needed.

Not here to dispute your issues though. If you'd like help (it sounds like your computer is probably having issues with or without Malwarebytes program) I'm more than willing to assist you in checking it out and getting things working well.

If  you'd like me to take a look at your system and see what might be going on please follow the instructions below.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you again

Ron

LOL, you didnt read my post correctly, and ya, maybe it just feels like 15 years, but i have used MBAM since 2008 at least. It didnt destroy my game, it caused an "IN-GAME ITEM" that i purchased, to dive into the water and drown, because MBAM, crashed the game doing an un scheduled, un called for update. I have recommended MBAM to hundreds, if not thousands of people over the years, dont patronize me.

Well, the system is certainly having some issues according to the Event Logs. My initial guess is that McAfee is probably not working well with Malwarebytes. Both programs show service crashes or not starting.

My recommendation would be to do a clean removal of both McAfee and Malwarebytes. Then reinstall McAfee, update it and reboot. Make sure all is working well.
Then reinstall Malwarebytes, update it and reboot and again make sure all appears to be working well. Then run a new set of FRST logs after one more reboot so we can check and see if there are lingering issues between the programs.

Here is the clean removal tool for McAfee
