Does malware-bytes sell lifetime keys?

Malwarebytes discontinued the sale of lifetime licences when Malwarebytes v2 came out. There are still some resellers that have lifetime licences available, but not that many and it can be hard to see the different between a legit reseller and a scam.

Hi @joshkmartinez

We made the switch from lifetime licenses to subscription back in 2014. You can read more about the switch here: https://blog.malwarebytes.com/malwarebytes-news/2014/03/malwarebytes-anti-malware-2-0/

We do not sell any more lifetime licenses as of March 2014.

I would highly recommend not purchasing lifetime licenses on eBay or other similar sites as they are more than likely fake keys or pirated. If you did purchase a lifetime license from these websites, we do not guarantee that they will work on activation or in the future.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Cecile

do lifetime keys still exist for Malwarebytes 3?

From the blog I linked above:

We will continue to honor existing lifetime licenses, meaning any users that already have a lifetime license for 1.x will continue to have a lifetime license

Yes, lifetime keys still exist. Anyone who already has a lifetime key before the change to subscription are grandfathered in and keep their lifetime key.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.

Thanks,
Cecile

Yes, they do exist - my account license page says "status: never expires", which is pretty neat!   ^_^

But no-one in their right mind would sell such a thing, so offers on auction sites should be treated as most probably scams, in my opinion.

Only thing, though - my copy of Malwarebytes Premium 3.1.2 shows antiransomware protection as "unavailable".   Perhaps lifetime keys don't qualify for that new function?

Hi @frostfair, what Windows OS are you currently running Malwarebytes 3.1.2 on?

@frostfair Unfortunately, the Anti-Ransomware component does not run on XP or Vista.

Here's more details:

Why is Malwarebytes 3.0 Anti-Ransomware protection disabled with Windows XP/Vista?

Malwarebytes has taken the stand that we are committed to continuing to support Windows XP for as long as Microsoft allows us to.  In fact, we’re one of the few providers still willing to do so.  This stand means that we’ll continue offering our core anti-malware protection to the best of our ability, given technical limitations.  Any new features added over time will be supported as feasible.  If a new feature, such as our anti-ransomware protection, relies on newer technologies not supported on older operating systems such as Windows Vista or XP, then we are not able to support it on those systems.  Any features not supported will be called out in our official system requirements.

Ok, thanks very much for that info.

I've been on the verge of getting a new machine for a while now, so I guess it's well and truly time.    Given that my laptop is 10 years old and I was given it for nothing by a neighbour about 5 years ago, I think I've had my money's worth from it!

Will I be able to transfer my Malwarebytes license to a new machine and preserve the "never expire" status in the process?

Thanks again.

@frostfair yes, you'll be able to transfer your lifetime license whenever you decide to upgrade your laptop.

Just be sure to deactivate the license on your current computer first before activating on your new machine. Here's how: https://support.malwarebytes.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1835313-how-do-i-transfer-my-malwarebytes-anti-malware-license-to-a-different-computer-?b_id=6400

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,
Cecile

Yeah no worries guys, I already figured that out. I said I'd love one. Regret being a cheapskate those years ago and didn't pick one up. Won't be buying anything from Ebay ;)
