Hi MWB forum,

Here's a couple heads-ups on MWB (as of v3.1.2.1733):

1. When installed on Win7, where Microsoft Security Essentials (aka MSE) is already installed, if you want MWB to handle anti-virus instead of MSE, there's no prompt by the MWB install/upgrade wizard to advise you to uninstall MSE (and reboot) before installing MWB .

2. "Settings | Scan Schedule | the default "Normal" scheduled scan" :

a. There is no "Reset to Default" button. On Win8 and  Win8 Operation Type is Threat, Scheduled Options (via Advanced button) Scan within Archives is enabled. Frequency defaults to Daily. On Win7, it's Weekly. So what is the default? Daily or Weekly? My thinking is that since this is a fast Threat scan, Daily (Recurrence = 1 day) should be the default.

b. If you don't drop down the Advanced button, you don't see that Recovery Options's "Recover missed tasks" is disabled (ie. not checked). That's a big mistake: It should be enabled by default. I just looked at two PCs that weren't powered on in the early AM hours and they haven't done this default scan in months :-(   Again, my thinking is that since this is a fast Threat scan, if missed in the early AM, it should run soon after there is user activity on the PC in any given new day.

c. There is no Help for the Recovery Options section in your web based help system.

That's all for now. Hth.

I can't believe I can't edit/correct my own post. Geez! Please ignore my original post above. Here's the corrected version:

Hi MWB forum,

2. "Settings | Scan Schedule | the default "Normal" scheduled scan" :

a. First, there is no "Reset to Default" button. On Win8 and  Win8 Operation Type is Threat, Scheduled Options (via Advanced button) Scan within Archives is enabled. I believe the default for this Threat scan is Weekly, and that would make sense since it include a full file system scan and takes some time and CPU/IO resource, especially on non-SSD systems

3. "Settings | Scan Schedule" : I feel there should also be another default scan provided and scheduled: A Hyper Scan. My thinking is that since this is a fast scan, Daily (Recurrence = 1 day) with Recovery (enabled) = 23 hours  should be the default.

Hth. Comments and corrections are always welcome.

Malwarebytes was designed to run alongside most AV programs.

The default scheduled scan is a daily threat scan and that's it.

When a scan runs at startup it can slow down a computer along with everything else that goes on at startup. MANY complaints when this is checked.
