Unable to install Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

I was running Malwarebytes 3.0.6.1469 previously. However, I ran into a bug that was causing the program not to update (it would claim to have updated the whole way, ask me to restart, and when the computer was restarted nothing had changed). Since I was unable to find a solution, I attempted to uninstall and reinstall the program.

I downloaded the free executable (as the version from my email was one of the 2.X versions), and when I went to install it a situation similar to the issue with the update occurred: I started up the installer, it claimed in install everything, had me agree to the T&Cs, and asked me to restart. I restarted, and Malwarebytes wasn't present on my PC at all.

All that I've been able to find elsewhere are issues from several years ago which are of no help with the current version.

Hello and Welcome

Let's try this first to start with a clean slate.... (Malwarebytes clean removal tool will backup your license information and then re-enter the license to the new install)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot. Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES (it will download the latest version) or you can download the latest version manually (currently v3.1.2.1733 ) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: mb-check-results.zip, FRST.txt, Addition.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.1.2 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

Firefox

Can;t even do step one. I downloaded MB clean tool and immediately upon starting it closes. Not sure if this is to do with the fact that I uninstalled my old version (since I was attempting a reinstall of it).

Given the lack of MB files, would the diagnostics tools actually work?

The tool should still run even if you uninstalled the previous versions...  After the tool runs it should prompt for a reboot, then it should ask you to download and install the latest version.

If you can't get it installed for any reason, continue to step #2 and post the logs so we can see if we can tell what may be going on...

Well, I've managed to find a sort of way around the issue. Used the 2.X launcher and let that one update to the latest version. I then checked for updates and it's no longer saying I'm not updated (just complaining about a lack of real time web protection now, which I managed to fix once, so I'll go through that again)
