Real Time Protection Anti-Malware Stopped

Recommended Posts

I did not expect to have to be writing with another problem so soon.

When I booted up this morning, there was a warning that the Anti-Malware under Real Protection was turned off. I immediately tried to rectify the situation. No dice. It pops right back on Off.

I would love to know how to fix this. It is unnerving to notice a service stopped all by itself and leaving one vulnerable. Please advise. Our renewal comes up in less than a month. We have used MB for years and for most of that time the program ran very well. My husband is going to write with his own problem, probably on my PC here because he suddenly cannot even access MB for the last two days. But first, please help with my current situation.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hello and Welcome

Let's try and get some logs first so the team can review them and see if they can tell what may be causing your issues....

  1. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: mb-check-results.zip, FRST.txt, Addition.txt)

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

Firefox

Hi @Cassandra

Yes, you supplied logs last week but nothing much was really done with them. You ran the Malwarebytes cleaner and reinstalled and seemed okay. In looking at your logs there are some issues with the removal in the first place and it looks like there is possibly something wrong with the install maybe from the removal not fully completing, or possibly from other issues during the install such as Avira may have blocked it partially. Not enough information to tell what really caused it.

I've moved your topic into the Malware Removal section where I can assist you one-on-one. I understand all of us are pressed for time, but there are some issues with your computer that need to be cleaned up a bit and then hopefully the program will again work for you the way it's supposed to.

Please temporarily disable your Avira antivirus while you run the following for me.

NOTE: The clean up script process below will also launch a full disk check on reboot. This may take a few hours to complete so if you need to, run it before you go to bed so that when you get up it's done.

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Thank you

Ron

Hi Ron,

Yesterday evening I went to check on Malwarebytes again before following your advice. Lo and behold, all was working properly. Everything was a go, especially the Real Time malware protection that was of such concern. The only thing I can think of is there had been a scheduled scan around five PM. Did it "kick" something back on? I don't know; it's only a guess but I'm a happy camper at this point.

If you think I should go ahead with the steps outlined in your post, I will. As for myself, I'd like to adopt a wait and see approach. Please let me know your thoughts.

Many thanks,

Sharon

I knew I shouldn't have written that everything was OK. This morning the same problem occurred and I can't get the Malware Protection to stay on. Just my luck. Will run the Fix and see what happens. Probably overnight. My C Drive is really bloated-I'm always meaning to clean it out properly but life keeps getting in the way. Thanks for your help and patience.
