Back at the end of last year I'd given the early v3 at least a couple of tries, each one producing a condition disabling the ability to restart. Didn't want that.

It's been a while but I'm back at home with internet, on my old reliable 64 bit Windows 7 Home premium desktop with more than adequate processor/memory/HDD space available. mbam v2.3.173.0, database v2017.15.05 is currently installed.

Thanks to this forum I learned where to procure the most previous (v2.3.173) and current, for me. I diligently followed the specific steps, in their order, to be executed/scanned and scoured prior to and directly after each install/uninstall, from the (then) suggestions gleaned from this forum, which I am eternally appreciative for.

Saved in my download folder are versions 2 and 3 of mbam clean; a copy of mbam-setup-2.2.1.1043.exe; mb-check-3.1.2.1001.exe and mb3-setup-consumer-3.1.2.1733-1.0.141-1.0.2092.exe --- There's also mbam anti-exploit_setup_1.09.1.1297.exe though I suspect that this feature was ultimately if not originally incorporated into mbam3.

What I'd like to know is this:
with the exception continually declining the persistent popup windows requesting permission to download current version, presuming my re-acquaintance once again with v2.3.173 over the last couple of days has been uneventful, what, if any, steps would you recommend as most important in following prior to and immediately after the download and installation of v3.1.2.1733-1.0.141-1.0.2092
?

I for one, would do a clean reinstall per the instructions below, and if you encounter issues, let the team help you fix them by providing the logs.

I also would exclude the MB3 files from whatever antivirus program your running... I will give you the steps for a clean re-install and what files to exclude.

AV Exclusions Below:

I would like you to add these files to your Anti-Virus exclusions list as mentioned in this FAQ HERE (my list below includes the exe files as well)

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\assistant.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\malwarebytes_assistant.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MbamPt.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMService.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbamtray.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMWsc.exe
  • C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\farflt.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMChameleon.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMSwissArmy.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys

Also please exclude the following folders too: (The complete folder)

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware

MB3 Clean Re-install and log collection...

(Malwarebytes clean removal tool will backup your license information and then re-enter the license to the new install)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot. Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES (it will download the latest version) or you can download the latest version manually (currently v3.1.2.1733 ) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: mb-check-results.zip, FRST.txt, Addition.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.1.2 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

So far so good on the install of the most current mbam v3, though I did notice that most all of the .exe files  recommended to include as exclusions were not found, as I suspect that the v2.3 I had previously installed was 32bit, placing them in Program Files x86 and not the 64bit Program Files.

Those details aside, I really like the UI feel/look of v3 and no longer experience the inability to restart the system.

Thanks again, Firefox!

Bravo!!

Malwarebytes staff members have said an upgrade from v2 to v3 should be fine for most users and said that is what should be done first.  Why are people telling others to do a complete uninstall/reinstall?

I couldn't accurately comment on that, bru. Perhaps it's an almost inbred ritual, the complete uninstall/reinstall route?

I can say with certainty that I was not only the user experiencing the particular issues I encountered; equally, there were no doubt a multitude of early v3 users whose install went without any glitches at all.

Fingers crossed, the install of the most current v3 this time has been smooth sailing.

Yes, the most common practice is to simply perform an in place upgrade from v2 to v3 and it works for most users.  Those that are having issues is because something went wrong so the mb-clean tool was created in order to clean up what may have gone wrong and get a fresh install of Malwarebytes.

If you look through the forum, this procedure has worked for many users...
