Noah Posted July 28, 2009 ID:103542 Share Posted July 28, 2009 Ugh, it makes me sick. Why do they need to know this? I don't even see beneficial information going to them by filling this out. The point of "registration" is to get benefits to something un-registered people don't get. No point of even filling it out.
exile360 Posted July 28, 2009 ID:103583 Share Posted July 28, 2009 They want usage info probably for marketing to see what kinds of users are purchasing which models of printers. It's most likely for their developers to learn which printers work in which user markets and create "niche" products to fill any gaps example:User a. purchases all in one wireless printer, but never uses the all in one features, just the printing function, in that case they'd likely design a base level wireless printer at a lower price point than the all in one to fill the gap in the market and potentially sell more printers. It could also be useful to grab statistics on how useful the printer's software and interface are and how frequently their users check for driver updates as frequent updates can be a sign that a user is having problems with the printer or its drivers. All that being said, the least they can do is give you access to a special support based on the serial number or something . mbyuser Posted July 29, 2009 Author ID:104049 Share Posted July 29, 2009 i understand why they want the info;my grief is that there asking for a lot and give nothing in rtn.they say if you dont agree to disclose the info, then they refuse to let you reg. that sort off marketing drives me away, deff doesnt make me think great compay, stick with them.also when you install the software it promises if you reg you will recive this that and the other but you dont, its false marketing at the least. exile360 Posted August 2, 2009 ID:105226 Share Posted August 2, 2009 At the very least it could give them insights into which products are having driver issues on people's systems, which could push driver update development, which in the end would certainly benefit you if you're one of the owners having problems with it .
