Malware Protection will not start

I have had two alerts on successive days that I am not fully protected. Under 'Real Time Protection' the Malware Protection button is 'off'. When I try to switch to 'on' it briefly says 'Starting' then stops and returns to the 'off' position. Any advice/explanation?

I'd suggest a reinstall over your existing installation. Use the latest installer from here:

Download and run the installer. If that doesn't help, post back here.
