How to roll back latest MalwareBytes Premium

Recommended Posts

Background :
I was doing some long overdue maintenance on my Wife Penny's laptop today (Samsung Core i5 with 8 Gig RAM and Win 8.1), and noticed the MalwareBytes definitions were rather old.

Tried to update them and it kept getting error messages about not being able to connect to the Server.

Eventually it prompted me to upgrade to the current version, and against my better judgement I said yes (Staff will be aware that I have a longish running and currently unresolved problem with a hanging MBAM Service on my desktop machine here : https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/201025-update-to-3041469-service-freezing/).

Well, as soon as it finished installing it performed a scan, and the Service failed part way through the scan <groan>. Penny's PC isn't very powerfull and the only way to recover was by doing a hard reboot (holding down the power button for a few seconds). Too bound up in CPU cycles to do a Ctrl_Alt_Del.

I can't leave her machine in it's current state (with a broken anti-virus), so my question is :

Where might I find the latest MalwareBytes Premium version that is

A. Stable and

b. will fetch new Virus definitions.

I'll need a download source.

The version Penny was running was 2.2.?, and I guess that would do. However I've only had this problem on my machine for 4 or 5 months so I'm hoping a earlier version of 3 (more than 5 months old) might do the job. I can't find a early 2017 installer on any of my machines, and the latest non 3.1 installer I have is mbam-setup-web.NT-2.2.1.1043.exe.

Thanks All.

Hello @Horbs:

The fine grain procedure for what @daman1 suggested follows:

  1. Please follow the steps in the locked/pinned topic to uninstall the remnants of MB3 and reinstall the latest build: MB-Clean Tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the MB-Clean tool, you will be asked to reboot.  Once restarted, the tool will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES (it will download the MB3 release version) or you can download the MB3 release version manually (currently v3.1.2.1733-1.0.141-1.0.2092) to re-install from HERE).
  2. Only if that does not correct the system's issue, then please read the following and only separately attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: mb-check-results.zip, FRST.txt, and Addition.txt).

NOTE: The following MB3 information is also available: MB3 User Guide ONLINE, MB3 User Guide PDF, and the MB3 FAQ.

Please reply to your topic with your progress.  Thank you.

Sorry @daman1 and @1PW, I need to be more clear.

I've been through heaps of diagnostics with my Desktop PC - see here :

which is exhibiting exactly the same symptoms.

I'm waiting for @dcollins to get back to me with next steps on that other help request.

If I get a fix for my Desktop PC, I'll attempt to apply it to my wife's PC, and if that doesn't work, then I'll go the diagnostic route for the laptop.

But for now, or until I get a fix for my other request, I simply want to roll back MalwareBytes on my Wife's laptop. I really don't want to be debugging multiple machines at the same time while the symptoms appear to be identical on more than one machine.

Cheers
