Malwarebytes 3 Won't Install

Recommended Posts

Running Win 7 sp1-I finally decided to download Malwarebytes 3 after using the previous version for quite a while. It is giving me a headache just to get it to download properly, and now my "Real Time Protection" turned itself off. Whenever I try to get M3, I get a "cannot connect to service" error. That's bad enough, but every five minutes, no matter what I am doing, the notice to download the new version keeps popping up in the middle of my screen, which is very annoying to say the least. I have given up trying to comply as I keep getting the same error message.

Going into MBAM in services and assuring it is up and running (says "Started" and is set on Automatic), when I try to run the program I get the error: "Windows could not start the MBAMService service on Local Computer. The System could not find the file specified."  Local Computer is also ticked under the Log On tab.

I am impressed with the description of Malwarebytes 3 as shown on your website, but it simply refuses to work and those popup reminders are seriously interrupting my work. Please advise. Plus having no Real Time Protection is problematic.

The linked  thread is asking for logs, here's the information we're looking for

  1. Create and obtain an mb-check log
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area
  2. Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will product two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Attach both of these logs to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the files to the attachment area

One of my malware protection programs wouldn't let me open FRST. It was so bad I finally deleted the (paid for) anti-malware. It solved the problem so I went ahead with the process but am faced with pages and pages of logs, which I am sure you don't want pasted here. Let me give it another try. Please pardon my ignorance, migraines can make one stupid.

If you are seeing Ver 2 installed when your logs show Ver 3 was installed but with issues, We need to get a clean start. just to be safe make sure you have a copy of your MB  key handy.

We have another tool called MB-Clean which will automate the whole process for you.

Tool can be found at https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb_clean

1. After downloading the tool run the tool.

2. The tool will automatically clean up the older product and will ask you for a restart.

3. Restart your system and then the MB-Clean tool will prompt you to re-install the latest product.

4. Click on "Yes" to reinstall MB 3.×.

5. Now you will have the latest product installed.

Please let me know if you are still seeing issues after the latest product install.
