Cannot use Windows Explorer without it crashing

Recommended Posts

So this is a new one for me. I cannot use the search function in the Windows explorer bar without it crashing out before the search completes.

Here is the eventviewer log:

Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.3.9600.17667, time stamp: 0x54c6f7c2
Faulting module name: mfmp4srcsnk.dll, version: 12.0.9600.17415, time stamp: 0x54503c43

Anytime I search any of my harddrives, it will pull results but when it gets to the tick before the green bar reaches the end at the top, it will crash. I see a blue screen blip and the folder is auto-closed.

I have tried the following:

1. Full virus and Malware scan- clean

2. Rebooted.

3. Installed latest Video card drivers since apparently it MAY be related.

4. removing the Windows Update KB2975719  but that didnt do anything even though my google-fu searches said so.

Can anyone help?

Hello @R3d33m3R3d33m3rr:

Thank you for the data in your OP.  The Malwarebytes' staffers/helpers must have additional good diagnostic data for a quality fault analysis of that possible integer divide by zero exception error code.

From only an Administrator's account, please download only to the desktop, the applicable Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST64.exe) or (FRST.exe), but not both.

If a Windows User Account Control (UAC) alert/prompt for FRST/FRST64.exe appears, select the "Yes" button to continue.
If a Windows SmartScreen warning alert/prompt for FRST/FRST64.exe appears, select "More info" then select the "Run anyway" button to continue.

Launch & only [Scan] with that diagnostic data collection tool without altering any settings, and when completed, two files will have been written to the Administrator desktop within a few minutes.  When complete, close the two notepad windows that open and exit the FRST tool.

Only attach the separate FRST.txt and the Addition.txt output files to your next reply to this topic.

Additionally, please consider left-clicking the "Follow" button, near the upper-right corner of your topic, to receive timely email notifications about updates to your topic.

Thank you again.

The exception code 0xc0000094 is:   STATUS_INTEGER_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO

The error occurs in mfmp4srcsnk.dll.  This is the Media Foundation MPEG4 Source and Sink DLL from Windows

While waiting for the analysis of the FRST logs, please download and run this free utility:  http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
When you open it, please left click once on the "Company" header.  This will sort the columns by the company name.
Then disable (do not delete) all NON-Microsoft entries (DO NOT disable the Microsoft stuff - it may make the system unbootable)
Reboot and see if that helps.
