Hi. I joined this forum so I could tell you guys what you seem to already know...this bug in the new version 3 is still not resolved.  I have used MB for many years and recommended it highly to my friends and relatives.  Never had a problem like this.  I'm so used to checking *every* file that I download that this is really beginning to become more than a little irritant.  I can't recall exactly when I upgraded to 3, but my sense is maybe around January.  Anyway, it was early this year.  So now it's June 2 and I'm surprised that I still can't check every file I download.  I'm sure you guys are busy over there at MB, but it would be really great if you guys could sort this one out!  Thanks!

Get us some more info. That issue was fixed for me with 3.1

  • Use mb-check to gather MB3 logs:
    1. Download mb-check from here and save to your desktop
    2. Run mb-check and within a few second the command window will open and then close
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
    4. Attach this log file to your post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area
  • Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
      1. Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run and when the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer
    3. Press Scan button
    4. This will product two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      1. Attach both of these logs to your post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the files to the attachment area

Hi Porthos,

Thanks for your reply.

Before I do all that you have requested, which I will do if necessary, I'd like to give you the short answer. :)

I am using Malwarebytes Premium Version 3.0.6.  I just checked again to see if there was an update, and it says my program is "Up to date" in the icon tray and "Current" in the MB Dialog Box.  So, no go on Version 3.1.

Also, I verified once again that the program will not scan individual files.

Your thoughts?

Thanks!

Thanks, Porthos, for your help!

I installed 3.1.2 and it's working fine.  However, the thing I don't understand is the "update" issue.  I've had the program set right along to "Automatically download and install application component updates" and to "Notify me when full version updates are available."  Apparently, neither of these options worked in my case.

Perhaps that was an issue with Version 3.0.  If I hadn't inquired on this Forum, I would still be under the assumption that my "protection" was "current" and "up to date."  That leaves me with a not-so-good feeling about MalwareBytes.

I would think MB should alert their subscribers via email messages to issues such as this...assuming they are aware that the issue exists!

Again, thank you for your help!

Program updates are "metered" eventually out over time. You would have been notified eventually. We meter our in-app upgrades, so it's quite possible when you try to manually Install Application Updates from the Settings > Application tab, none were available at the time of the check.

Our update process in 3.0 is way better than what we had with 2.x, even with our metering in place. Database updates come out multiple times a day and users get those as soon as they do a check, we only meter our Component Updates (larger background updates) and our Application Updates (the ones where you have to click on the installer to install). Staying on 3.0.6 is perfectly fine for most people and they are protected (even from WannaCry), and when they get the 3.1.2 upgrade, it allows them to upgrade when they are ready. For users who want the latest updates immediately, we make them available for a download.

A lot of software stages it's rollouts like this to help handle support requests or try to catch issues that may arise. Your phone does this, Windows does this, and lots of other security vendors do this. If we found a giant flaw in 3.0.6 that left people vulnerable, we would do our best to get more users onto the latest version as soon as possible. But in most cases, letting the upgrades come naturally works best.
