Signature-less detection?

Recommended Posts

So i saw this setting in mbam what does it do i thought most if not all antimalware/antiviruses by default use a signature system how does signature-less work i am confused

Like for example in windows defender you can update definitions which i presume is another word for signatures right?

If for security reasons you cant go into too much detail i understand :)

Heuristic at the end of a scan. It looks for certain fingerprints that malware uses. May catch something that is "new" in the wild.

Yes, it's a new feature that enhances both our realtime Malware protection component as well as our scanner.  It is a signature-less malware detection component that relies on intelligent algorithms and machine learning to detect new and unknown/never-before-seen threats.  You can think of it as sort of a next-generation heuristics component.  For the moment we haven't fully activated it yet as it is still in "learning mode" in order to increase its detection capabilities and efficiency as well as to learn to ensure that it will avoid false positives, but soon we will activate it fully (this will happen automatically at some point in the future with one of our updates) and it will be online to guard your system alongside the other layers already active in Malwarebytes.

Can anyone remember the introduction of MBAM 1's Shuriken Heuristics feature in 2010?  Heuristics is machine learning of software behaviors.  Not the use of fingerprints...

Hi, I have a doubt about this feature. If the signature-less option is selected, does it mean that no signature is used? Or it means that an extra "signature-less" step is added after the old signature scan?

Thanks!
