Problems with 2.2.1.1043 since 20 May

Recommended Posts

Multiple problems running Malwarebytes 2.2.1.1043 under Vista SP2.

1. Why has the program not updated itself to version 3? I'm not sure I want this, though, given the problems I have seen reported with version 3. But I'd like to know why the updating has not happened.

2. Since 20 May 2017:

a. scanning was stuck on the updating stage. I got around this by closing the program down and re-loading it (once). Database is now 2017.5.27.2.

b. after fixing (a), manual scan (with database update) was OK, but scheduled scans are not happening.

c. realtime protection is reported "no protection" on dashboard.

Various logs attached. Thank you.

Program upgrades are metered so eventually you will get offered the upgrade.  Version 3.1.2 seems to be working fine for most users... if you want to install the latest version you can do so by following the instructions below, this should also fix your issues with scheduled scans.

Let's try this first.... (Malwarebytes clean removal tool will backup your license information and then re-enter the license to the new install)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot. Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES (it will download the latest version) or you can download the latest version manually (currently v3.1.2.1733 ) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: mb-check-results.zip, FRST.txt, Addition.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.1.2 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

I have seen only those machines stuck on version 2, which did have problems with activation due to "key usage exhausted" after manually applying the new version.

All the other machines I support did automatically get at least version 3.06.

Thank you both for replying to my query.  This is going to sound strange...

My computer had been turned off for 3 weeks. When I restarted it, on May 11th, it behaved oddly, eg. took a long time to boot up; my USB 3.0 card was dead, etc.  Everything else worked normally.

MalWareBytes continued to do daily scheduled scans (with database update) until May 20th, so I didn't connect its subsequent problems with my computer's holiday.

Yesterday I decided to open the case, re-seat a few cards, and blow away all the dust.  Now it boots normally and the USB card is working again.  And, unexpectedly, MalWareBytes is working correctly again.

So I'll stay with version 2 now until my turn for version 3 arrives.  I wonder how you're going to incorporate this experience into your procedures for problem diagnosis :-)

Nice job with your trouble shooting...

Can't really say how all that worked for you or how the staff will incorporate what you done (as I don't work for Malwarebytes)...

Your welcome to wait for the update prompt... however if you change your mind, don't hesitate to follow my instructions above.
