I am working on a computer infected by Antivirus 2010 and possibly something called Advanced Virus Remover, which appeared on the desktop. The virus is preventing me from running or installing MalwareBytes. Here is the HiJackTHis log:

Hi,

First please take a look and see if any of these posts help you to get MBAM running or not.

Potential Malware infection issues to review to get MBAM running

If none of above apply in your case, then try if Malwarebytes works when you rename mbam.exe. This is the file located in the Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder. So rename mbam.exe to blah.exe (or so). It also happens in some cases that malware blocks EVERY process except for what is in its own whitelist, so these include system important processes. So that's why it may be a good idea to rename mbam.exe to explorer.exe or so.

Also try to run Mbam from Windows Safe mode.

I am working on a computer infected by Antivirus 2010 and possibly something called Advanced Virus Remover, which appeared on the desktop. The virus is preventing me from running or installing MalwareBytes.

I've also got a machine with homeantivirus2010 that's resisting all tools: MWB A-M, Avast, Spybot, Runscanner, Spyware Doctor, Sophos Anti-Rootkit. Disables them

all, except for Spyware Doctor. Will try the stuff noted above. Nastiest infection I've seen in a few years.

I have home antivirus 2010 on my laptop and it too is preventing the installation / usage of malwarebytes and any other program, even in safe mode and even if you rename mbam.

I have tried all of these links and nothing is working. I just spent four hours trying everything that I can find.

Help......

Ken

Sorry to hear you're in the same boat ... but glad to see others are seeing this ... most serious new set of attack vectors I've seen since rootkit stuff first started

happening back in 04-05 ......

I've got a 2.5" SATA external HD case showing up tom'w so I can pull the HD from this notebook and attack the stuff from another machine. It'll be interesting

if somehow that fails ....

Guys, this is really confusing if everyone posts in the same thread.

I'm helping awolfinthefold in this thread, so if you need help, then please start with a new thread instead.

Thanks for understanding.

Since the Threadstarter didn't answer for a week, I'm going to close this thread to avoid more confusion.
