Real-time protection layers keep turning off

Recommended Posts

Hello and Welcome...

They did have an issue with a database update that caused something like this... first make sure you have the latest update installed, by clicking on Updates (Current) in the dashboard.  Then exit out of Malwarebytes from the system tray.  Then once again open up Malwarebytes.

Similar to the instructions HERE

Let me know if that corrects your issue.

It doesn't work. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.

Can you please try the following:

  1. Open Malwarebytes 3
  2. Navigate to Settings -> Application
  3. Turn on the option for Event Log Data
  4. Navigate to Settings -> Protection
  5. Attempt to turn on Malware Protection
  6. Wait 30 seconds
  7. Navigate to Settings -> Application
  8. Turn off the option for Event Log Data
  9. Run mb-check again and upload the zip file it creates

This will give us a bit more information about what's going on

I just had the same problem this week (May-17) with Windows-10 64-bit on two different systems. Now I should first point out that I had just installed the most recent windows update (er, it installed itself then I just rebooted) followed by accepting a Malwarebytes update to version 3.2.1. In both instances real-time protection is set off and setting it to on is futile (it appears to be trying something then just gives up). Rebooting does not help. Shutting down Malwarebytes then restarting does not help (this was suggested at another article in this forum). But shutting down Malwarebytes then restarting it with "run as administrator" fixed my problem.

You should not need to set the compatibility mode for Malwarebytes. If that solves your problem, you're not actually solving the issue and are potentially opening yourself up to more issues down the road.

@kananthony for starters, can you try re-installing with mb-clean? I know you said you re-installed already, I just want to try this and see the log file it creates on your desktop.

Ok, let's try these steps then:

  1. Open Malwarebytes 3
  2. Navigate to Settings -> Application
  3. Turn on the option for Event Log Data
  4. Restart your computer and wait for Malwarebytes to launch
  5. Verify that Malware Protection did not start, if it did, please restart again until it does not turn on automatically
  6. Navigate to Settings -> Application
  7. Turn off the option for Event Log Data
  8. Run mb-check again and upload the zip file it creates

I'm having the same problem on occurring on 3 Windows 10 computers, seems to randomly occur. So damn annoying when your watching movies.

Following Dave's suggestions Malware protection did in fact start and then randomly again stops on all 3 computers.

Hi, I have the same issue.  Here are the logs

Hi  @immermr Welcome

Could you start your own topic so we can work one on one with you and provide the following info.

  • Create and obtain an mb-check log
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area
  • Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Attach both of these logs to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the files to the attachment area
