database update - host not found

Recommended Posts

My dad has a PC running Windows 7. It got infected with a virus. He called a remote IT service for help. They removed the virus and installed Malwarebytes. When I went to check on his PC yesterday the message displayed saying the MWB database was 19 days out of date. When I tried to update it I got a "host not found" error.

I ran a quick scan and it found and removed one threat. I did a power cycle on the router, as per one of the forum messages. The same error persists.

When I set up his computer I installed Windows Security Essentials. Yesterday I uninstalled that and installed the free version of AVG instead.

Suggestions?

btw - the desktop icon displays PRO on top of the M logo. Is that a legitimate version of the program? I don't see anything like that on the MWB web site.

Thanks,

Mike

Hello @MikeC and :welcome:

The Malwarebytes' staffers/helpers must have good data for a quality fault analysis.  Please follow the procedural steps within Having problems using Malwarebytes? Please follow these steps ensuring that you attach the three (3) files, mb-check-results.zip, FRST.txt, and Addition.txt to your next reply to this topic.

Thank you.
