Unable to contact license server

Recommended Posts

Initially Web Protection would not start.  I ran mbam-clean-2.3.0.1001.exe, and had it re-install MalwareBytes 3.0 Premium.  It was installed as the Free version.  When attempting to Active License, I get a "unable to contact license server" error message.

Any ideas?

The current version of mb-clean is mb-clean-3.1.0.1002.exe and it would have preserved your activation.

Could you post the following logs for us to see what is actually going on.

** Download MB-Check Here **

How to use it?

  1. Download the latest version of MB-Check by clicking the link above
  2. Double-click and run mb-check.exe
  3. A command window will appear stating "running mb-check" followed by "running mb-grab"
  4. Upon completion, a prompt will appear letting you know it's done and the "mb-check-results.zip" file will be on your desktop
  5. Attach the "mb-check-results.zip" file to your support case and/or your forums thread for further assistance

Darn, I missed posting a step for you.

  • Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Attach both of these logs to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the files to the attachment area

Were you able to get this resolved? It looks like your computer is blocking access to that site. Just for kicks, can you follow the instructions below to reset your HOSTS file?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/972034/how-to-reset-the-hosts-file-back-to-the-default

Problem solved.  This was a weird one.  It was not the HOSTS file.  I could reach any site I typed in EXCEPT the MalwareBytes update site.  I did a WINSOCK reset, rebooted, and it worked.  Reactivated with my key, ran an update (twice) and it looks like everything is good.  I wouldn't have gotten there without you guys suggesting various things.  Really, a BIG thank you!!
